Also known as the Broom Tree, the Rotem is a small tree that often resembles a bush. You can find it scattered across the Negev Desert. Despite its size, the Rotem provides just enough shade to offer relief from the intense desert sun.
When referenced in Scripture, the Rotem typically appears during moments when someone is at the end of their rope and on the verge of giving up (think Elijah and Hagar). It’s in those times-when the journey feels endless, the circumstances overwhelming, and you feel like you can’t go on-that there is a Rotem. Just enough shade. Just enough comfort. Just enough hope.
The Rotem is a powerful symbol of how God provides exactly what we need, when we need it, but it also serves as a reminder that we, too, are called to offer shade to others in a world that can often feel scorching,
